The newest brand to emerge from Noble House Collections, DomoSofa, has signed an extraordinary £80,000 deal to sponsor Britain’s finest hope to win the 2007 mini-Transat sailing race. DomoSofa is the team’s main sponsor and will be supporting 31 year old skipper Andrew Wood in his attempt to follow in the footsteps of many famous sailors including Ellen Macarthur!
The ‘Mini Transat’ is a
highly demanding, single-handed transatlantic race
using tiny, open 6.5 metre ‘Classe Mini’
racing yachts. Founded in the late 1970’s, the
race originally departed from Andrew’s home port
of Penzance but is now hosted by France where, every
two years, up to 70 solo sailors head out on the 4000
mile course to Brazil with only a brief stopover in the
Canary Islands. Conditions are uncomfortable, even
dangerous and sleep is almost non-existent. Combine
this with the need to constantly drive the boat on
night and day and you have the recipe for a very
competitive challenge indeed. It is a challenge that
only the best prepared can win.
Andrew
Wood’s experience includes being the first
British yachtsman to sail a yacht, west to east through
3000 miles of dense pack ice in order to complete the
notorious Northwest Passage in a single season (winning
the Royal Cruising Club’s ‘Medal for
Seamanship’.) Recent awards include the Royal
Yachting Associations prestigious ‘Yachtmaster of
the Year’ Award presented to him by HRH Princess
Anne at the 2005 Shroeder London International Boat
Show.
Martin Kay, Managing Director of Noble House
Collections, parent company of DomoSofa and himself a
keen yachtsman explained: ‘DomoSofa is a fabulous
new brand to which we have a long term commitment.
It’s a new generation of contemporary upholstered
furniture designs that turn heads and make an impact.
The spirit of the Mini Transat, which is about taking
risks, being bold and ‘edgy’ and using
cutting-edge technology reflects the image we want to
build for DomoSofa. Sponsoring a sportsman as keen and
driven as Andrew, and playing our part in helping
another British sailor to compete on the world stage is
fabulous partnership that we hope will help raise the
profile of DomoSofas and place it high on the stylish
consumer’s shopping list. ‘
DomoSofa stockists will be offered the opportunity to
see the boat for themselves as it travels around the UK
and linked consumer promotions are also planned.
